Leshan Giant Buddha is the biggest Buddha in the world , located in
south Sichuan province , about 150 km away from Chengdu .
In 713 , a Buddhist monk , Haitong , started the construction of this Leshan
Budhha . And in 803 , the construction of this giant Leshan Buddha was
completed . Leshan Buddha is 71 meters high , shoulder 28 meters wide ,
head diameter 10 meters , ear 7 meter long . The instep of
its foot can hold 100 persons and big toe can work as a dinner table for 6
persons . Compared with the standing Buddha in Afganistan , this sitting
Leshan Buddha is 11meters higher . In 1996 , Leshan Budddha was listed as
World Cultural and Natural Heritage by UNESCO .
Emeishan Mountain is one of the top four Buddhist mountains in China ,
also located in south Sichuan province , 168 km away from Chengdu and 40
km away from Leshan Buddha . In 1996 , Emeishan mountain was listed as
World Cultural and Natural Heritage by UNESCO . Emeishan mountain towers
3099 meters . Today , about 25 Buddhist temples , built about 1500 years ago ,
are scattered in Emeishan Mountain , so Emeishan Mountain is a popular place
for pilgrims . Meanwhile , Emeishan Mountain is also famous for the beatiful
scenery , abundant plant species and animal species , so Emeishan Mountain
is also popular among travellers .
