The Chinese name of Tibet is Xizang ,located in southwest frontier of China.On its south , southeast ,north and northwest are Yunnan province , Sichuan province , Qinghhai province and Xinjiang province . Tibet also borders Nepal on its west .Tibet , covering an area of 1.22 million square kilometers, has a population of 2.8 million (2006), among whom 92% are tibetan .

        Located on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau , Tibet is featured by an average altitude of 4000 meters , well-known as Roof of the World .The peak of Himalaya , Mt Everest ,mounting to 8848 meters, is in Tibet .

        Tourism , agriculture and animal husbandry are the pillar industry in Tibet .Sheep , goats, yaks and horses are fed by local people ; high-land barley and potato are the main agricultural products .

Capital City : Lhasa , City of Sunshine , is located in Gyi Qu Valley .
